Database Mapping

Structured Data

Databases are comprised of data organized in a well-defined structure that can be deciphered by computer programs. A common type of structured data is found in relational databases that are designed and accessed through Structured Query Language (SQL). Relational databases are organized as a series of interrelated tables, where each table contains multiple columns of information. The relationships between tables, table names, and column definitions are defined using SQL. To access data within a database, the database must often be restored in the originating database software platform. Depending on the software and the size of the database, this process can be an arduous task. Mining PII from structured data requires defining not only the fields containing PII, but also how those fields relate back to an individual or business.

Canopy’s groundbreaking new database mapping functionality enables reviewers to quickly and easily identify and map the relationships of PII detected within databases.

To access the database mapping workflow, click on the Filters button from the Document List page:

Canopy’s database mapping functionality is currently in beta. Users will soon be able to independently create their own mapped database table views. At the current time, Canopy supports users by creating mapped database table views reflecting the ERDs that users create. Please contact Customer Success for support using this new beta functionality.
